drying wet bones: support structures from another plane
clay, pigment, concrete
2024
The process spans durational sessions which start from individual instinctive shaping, a result of our habitual way of interacting with material, to collaborating on larger structures.
Making requires trusting ones innate knowledge. This is accumulated through a continuous interaction with our direct environment (i.e. this gravitation field, this concentration of oxygen, etc.) and is released
via form generation . What we are trying to explore with this sculptural making process can also be phrased as: how do our two legs know how to walk in a stable way and where do the legs take us when we have no specific direction in mind?
In this installation we swim through references ranging from cave formation, Ursula Le Guin ́s sci-fi worlds, Daoist true form, to ecstatic otherworldly journeys across several mystic practices. We seek answers from this input amongst our chaotic and violent modern times. In the helpless state of grieving with the world we hope to find liminal spaces where energy can be put into opening up this seemingly seemless reality.
